How to Get to Bohol in 2026: From Manila, Cebu & Palawan

How to get to Bohol by direct flight from Manila, ferry from Cebu, or connecting from Palawan. Routes, travel times, and costs.

Published June 25, 2026

Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG) handles direct flights from Manila, and the airport is already on Panglao island so the transfer to Alona Beach is short. If you're coming from Cebu, the fast ferry from Pier 1 to Tagbilaran is the standard route: about 2 hours, with several departures daily.

From Palawan, Cebgo flies direct from El Nido to Bohol-Panglao. If you're starting from Puerto Princesa or Coron, you'll need to connect through Manila or Cebu.

I've done both the Manila flight and the Cebu ferry on separate trips. This guide covers how to get to Bohol from each common starting point.

Quick Answer: What Is the Best Way to Get to Bohol?

For most travelers, it depends on where you're starting:

  • From Manila: Fly direct to Bohol-Panglao Airport. About 1.5 hours, multiple daily flights.
  • From Cebu: Take the fast ferry from Pier 1 to Tagbilaran. About 2 hours and cheaper than flying.
  • From El Nido: Fly direct to Bohol-Panglao on Cebgo.
  • From Puerto Princesa or Coron: No direct route. Fly to Manila and connect, or fly to Cebu and take the ferry.

Tip

If this is your first time visiting Bohol, the Bohol travel guide covers Panglao, the Chocolate Hills, Balicasag, and how to pace four days without spending half the trip in a van.

Note

These are planning estimates as of mid-2026. Fares change by season, airline, and booking lead time. Always check current prices before locking in your route.

How to Get to Bohol from Manila

Manila is the most common starting point, and this is one of the simpler domestic flight connections in the Philippines.

Direct Flight from Manila (Recommended)

Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, and AirAsia all operate daily flights from Manila (NAIA) to Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG).

How it works:

  1. Fly from Manila (NAIA) to Bohol-Panglao International Airport.
  2. Take a tricycle or van to your hotel in Panglao.

Flight time: Approximately 1.5 hours

Airport to Alona Beach: 15–25 minutes by tricycle or van

Estimated cost: PHP 3,000–6,000 two way for the flight, plus PHP 300–400 for a tricycle or PHP 600–1,000 for a private van (as of mid-2026)

Pros

  • Multiple airlines and daily flights
  • Airport is already on Panglao — short transfer to Alona
  • Fares can be cheap if booked early

Cons

  • Peak season flights fill up fast
  • Fares spike in December through April
  • Afternoon arrivals cut into your first day

Good to Know

  • The airport is on Panglao island, not in Tagbilaran city. That means you're already close to Alona Beach and the main hotel area when you land.
  • Tricycles are waiting outside arrivals. No need to pre-book unless your hotel includes a transfer.
  • Early morning flights from Manila get you to Panglao by late morning, which leaves the afternoon free.
  • December through April is peak season. Booking at least two to three weeks ahead usually gets better prices and availability.

How to Get to Bohol from Cebu

Cebu is the closest major hub to Bohol, and the ferry is an easy way to get there. It's cheaper than flying, the schedule is frequent, and the crossing is one of the most well-traveled ferry routes in the Visayas.

Ferry from Cebu (Recommended)

Fast ferries run from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Tagbilaran port on Bohol. The crossing takes about 2 hours, with several departures throughout the day. OceanJet, 2GO, and Lite Ferries all operate this route.

How it works:

  1. Get to Pier 1 in Cebu City.
  2. Buy your ticket at the ticket counters inside the terminal.
  3. Board the ferry to Tagbilaran.
  4. From Tagbilaran port, take a tricycle or van to Panglao (30–45 minutes).

Ferry crossing: Approximately 2 hours

Tagbilaran port to Alona: 30–45 minutes by tricycle or van

Estimated cost: PHP 800–1,200 one way for the ferry (as of mid-2026)

Pros

  • Cheapest way to get to Bohol from any major hub
  • Multiple departures daily across several operators
  • No airport transfers needed on the Cebu side if you're already in the city

Cons

  • Need to get to Pier 1 in Cebu City, which is 30–45 minutes from the airport area
  • Ferry plus port transfer to Panglao adds up to about 3 hours total
  • Tickets can sell out on weekends and holidays during peak season

Getting to Pier 1 in Cebu City

Pier 1 is in central Cebu City, close to the downtown area. How you get there depends on where you're starting:

  • From Cebu City: A short taxi or Grab ride from most parts of the city.
  • From Mactan-Cebu International Airport: About 30 to 45 minutes by taxi or Grab, depending on traffic. The airport is on Mactan Island, across the bridge from Cebu City.

If you're flying into Cebu and connecting to the ferry the same day, allow at least 2 hours between landing and your target ferry departure to account for baggage claim, the airport-to-pier transfer, and buying your ticket at the terminal.

Buying Ferry Tickets

You can buy tickets directly at the ticket counters inside the terminal at Pier 1. Each operator has its own counter. Walk-up tickets are available for most departures, and buying at the counter is the standard way most travelers do it. Some operators also offer online booking if you'd rather lock in a departure ahead of time.

That said, tickets can sell out on weekends, holidays, and during peak travel periods (December through April). If you're traveling on a busy day, arriving early is important.

Arrive at least 2 hours before your planned departure. You need time to find the right counter, buy your ticket, pay the terminal fee (a small charge collected at the port), and go through the boarding process. The terminal can get busy, and boarding usually closes well before the ferry actually leaves.

Checking Ferry Schedules

Schedules shift between seasons and operators adjust frequency, so always verify the current timetable before heading to the port. You can check departure times on Lite Ferries, OceanJet, or 12go.asia for a side-by-side view across operators.

Good to Know

  • The ferry arrives at Tagbilaran port, not Panglao. From there, you'll need a tricycle or van to get to Alona Beach or wherever you're staying in Panglao (30–45 minutes).
  • If you're connecting from a Cebu flight, an early morning arrival gives you the best chance of catching a midday ferry and reaching Panglao with most of the afternoon left.
  • Book ahead during peak months — walking up on a Saturday morning in March might leave you waiting for a later departure.

Alternative: Flight from Cebu

Short flights between Cebu and Bohol exist, and the flight itself is only about 30 minutes. But once you factor in airport transfers on both ends, check-in time, and the fare, the ferry is usually more practical. The total door-to-door time ends up similar, and the ferry is almost always cheaper.

The flight only makes sense if the ferry schedule doesn't work for your dates or you specifically want to avoid the boat.

How to Get to Bohol from Palawan

How you get from Palawan to Bohol depends on where in Palawan you're starting. If you're in El Nido, there's a direct flight. From Puerto Princesa or Coron, you'll need to connect through Manila or Cebu.

Option 1: Direct Flight from El Nido on Cebgo (Easiest)

Cebgo operates a direct flight from Lio Airport in El Nido to Bohol-Panglao International Airport (TAG). This is the only direct Palawan-to-Bohol route.

How it works:

  1. Get to Lio Airport (shuttle or tricycle from El Nido town).
  2. Fly Cebgo to Bohol-Panglao Airport.
  3. Take a tricycle or van to your hotel in Panglao.

Pros

  • Only direct flight between Palawan and Bohol
  • No layover, no connecting flights, no ferry
  • Lands at Panglao — short transfer to Alona

Cons

  • Only available from El Nido, not from Puerto Princesa or Coron
  • Cebgo fares are higher than budget carriers
  • Limited schedule — check availability for your dates
  • Smaller aircraft with tighter luggage limits

Good to Know

  • Cebgo uses smaller turboprop aircraft, so luggage allowances are lower than standard domestic carriers. Check the weight limit before you pack.
  • This flight doesn't run daily on every schedule. Check Cebgo's website for availability on your dates.
  • If El Nido is already part of your Palawan trip, this is the obvious way to continue to Bohol without backtracking. The how to get to El Nido guide covers getting into El Nido from other starting points.

Option 2: Fly Puerto Princesa or Coron → Manila → Bohol (Most Flight Options)

If you're starting from Puerto Princesa (PPS) or Coron/Busuanga (USU), there are no direct routes to Bohol. The most common connection goes through Manila.

  1. Fly from Puerto Princesa or Busuanga to Manila.
  2. Connect to a Manila–Bohol flight.
  3. Land at Bohol-Panglao Airport and transfer to your hotel.

Total travel time: 5–7 hours depending on the layover

Estimated cost: PHP 4,000–10,000 one way for both flights (as of mid-2026)

Pros

  • Most flights to choose from — daily departures on both legs
  • Can book as a single itinerary on Cebu Pacific or PAL for rebooking protection

Cons

  • Adds a Manila layover
  • More expensive than the Cebu ferry route
  • Full travel day with two flights

Option 3: Fly Puerto Princesa or Coron → Cebu, Then Ferry to Bohol (Best Value)

If you can find a Palawan-to-Cebu flight on your dates, this route lets you skip Manila and use the cheaper Cebu-to-Bohol ferry for the second leg.

  1. Fly from Puerto Princesa or Busuanga to Cebu.
  2. Transfer from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to Pier 1 in Cebu City (30–45 minutes by taxi or Grab).
  3. Take the fast ferry to Tagbilaran (about 2 hours).
  4. Transfer from Tagbilaran port to Panglao.

Total travel time: 5–7 hours

Estimated cost: PHP 3,500–8,000 one way for the flight plus ferry (as of mid-2026)

Pros

  • Usually cheaper than connecting through Manila
  • Avoids a Manila layover
  • The Cebu-to-Bohol ferry is reliable and frequent

Cons

  • Three legs: flight, airport-to-pier transfer, ferry
  • Need to time the flight to leave enough buffer for the ferry

Good to Know

  • If you're flying from Puerto Princesa to Cebu for the ferry, take a morning flight. That gives you the best chance of catching an afternoon ferry and reaching Panglao the same day.
  • Allow at least 2 hours between landing in Cebu and your target ferry departure. The airport-to-pier transfer alone can take 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.
  • If the timing doesn't line up for a same-day connection, overnight in Cebu and take the ferry the next morning. Forcing a tight connection isn't worth the stress.

Which Route Should You Choose?

Fly direct from Manila if:

  • Manila is your starting point
  • You want the simplest, fastest route
  • You'd rather avoid ferries

Take the ferry from Cebu if:

  • You're already in Cebu or passing through
  • You want the cheapest option
  • You're combining Cebu and Bohol on the same trip

Fly Cebgo from El Nido if:

  • You're already in El Nido
  • You want a direct flight without backtracking through Manila or Cebu
  • The schedule and fare work for your dates

Connect through Manila from Puerto Princesa or Coron if:

  • You want the most flights to choose from
  • You'd rather do airports than airports plus a ferry
  • Budget is less of a concern than convenience

Fly to Cebu from Puerto Princesa or Coron and take the ferry if:

  • You want to save money over the Manila connection
  • A Palawan-to-Cebu flight works on your dates
  • You don't mind the extra airport-to-ferry transfer in Cebu

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Heading to Tagbilaran city instead of straight to Panglao. The airport is on Panglao, and that's where the beaches, dive shops, and hotels are. Tagbilaran is the mainland city — useful for the ferry port, but not where you want to base.
  • Showing up at Cebu Pier 1 right before departure. Arrive at least 2 hours early. Between ticketing, the terminal fee, and boarding, there's more process than you'd expect for a domestic ferry.
  • Assuming the Cebu ferry terminal is near the airport. Pier 1 is in Cebu City, across the bridge from Mactan Island where the airport is. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for the transfer, more in heavy traffic.
  • Not bringing enough cash. Bohol has ATMs, but they can run dry during peak periods, especially around Alona Beach on weekends. Withdraw what you need in Manila or Cebu before you head over.
  • Trying to fly Cebu to Bohol when the ferry is the better option. The flight is 30 minutes, but by the time you add airport transfers, check-in, and boarding on both ends, the ferry is similar in total time and significantly cheaper.
  • Booking separate flights on separate airlines without a buffer. If you're connecting through Manila or Cebu and your first flight is delayed, a separate booking on a different airline won't rebook you. Book as a single itinerary when possible, or leave at least 2 hours between connections.

Travel Tips

Where to Book

For flights, book directly through the Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, or AirAsia websites or apps. Third-party platforms like Traveloka and Google Flights are useful for comparing fares, but book direct when prices are similar so rebooking is simpler if something changes.

For the Cebu ferry, book through the operator's website or buy at the Pier 1 counter on the day — details in the Cebu section above.

Time the Cebu Connection Right

If you're flying into Cebu to catch the ferry, take a morning flight. That puts you at the airport by mid-morning, gives you time for the pier transfer, and lets you catch an early afternoon ferry. You'll be in Panglao by late afternoon with the evening free.

Download Offline Maps

Phone signal in Panglao is generally fine, but it drops once you're on the water or heading into the countryside for the Chocolate Hills loop. Offline maps on Google Maps or Maps.me are worth setting up before you leave.

Buy a SIM Card Early

Grab a prepaid SIM (Globe or Smart) at the Manila or Cebu airport before your connection. Bohol has decent signal in the main areas, but sorting your data connection before you arrive saves hassle.

Connecting to Other Destinations
